IAH Studio offers private and group lessons in violin, viola, cello, and music theory. Our instruction is accessible, culturally informed, and thoughtfully designed to meet each student where they are—whether they're just starting out or preparing for advanced auditions. With a strong focus on both technical skill and creative expression, our curriculum supports learners at every stage of their musical journey.

Private Lessons

We offer private lessons in violin, viola, cello, and music theory, available in 30-, 45-, or 60-minute sessions once a week. Instrumental lessons include built-in music theory instruction, giving students a well-rounded foundation in both technique and musicianship.

For those interested in music theory from a compositional or academic lens—without learning an instrument—music theory can also be taken as a stand-alone course.

Lessons are scheduled based on the availability of both student and instructor and can take place either virtually or at our Bronx-based studio. Submit an interest form to learn more about availability and pricing.

Group Lessons

Group Lessons
Group violin classes are held online every weekend and midweek for adults:

Saturday: 10:00–11:00 AM (Beginner) and 1:00–2:00 PM (Intermediate)
Sunday: 11:00–12:00 PM (Beginner) and 2:00–3:00 PM (Intermediate)
Wednesday (Adults): 6:00–7:00 PM (Beginner)

All students receive consistent weekly instruction and are grouped by age playing level to ensure they’re learning in a supportive and motivating environment.

$35 per student per class.

The Instructor Marketplace is a curated directory of independent teaching artists and private studio instructors who reflect the diversity of our musical community. Whether our studio is currently full, your preferred teacher isn’t available, or you're simply searching for a string musician of color to learn from—especially if you don’t already have someone in your network—this is the place to start.

Explore new approaches, connect with talented educators, and continue your musical journey with intention. We’re excited to launch this platform in Fall 2025.

Our Approach to Teaching

Instrument Technique
We start from the ground up, ensuring students develop solid technique from the very beginning. From posture and bowing to tone production, our instructors help students build a strong foundation in their chosen instrument, fostering confidence and musical independence over time.

Integrated Music Theory
Understanding the language of music is just as important as playing it. That’s why theory isn’t an afterthought at IAH Studio—it’s embedded into every lesson. Students learn how to read and understand music while actively applying that knowledge to their instrument work.

Mindfulness & Musicianship
We believe music is not only an art form but a practice in self-awareness. Our teaching includes moments of mindfulness, check-ins, and even healthy snack breaks during hour-long sessions to encourage whole-student growth and a positive relationship with music.

Music History & Representation
Each student is introduced to a broad spectrum of composers and artists, with a special focus on BIPOC musicians whose stories and works are often left out of traditional curricula. Representation matters—and we make sure our students see themselves reflected in the music they study.

Why IAH Studio?

In many traditional string programs, music theory is an extra class, cultural representation is an afterthought, and private instruction is cost-prohibitive. We change that.
