Iymaani Abdul-Hamid has created a multifaceted career for herself: performing, teaching and working as a social service advocate for Harlem and Bronx communities. A classically trained violist, Iymaani has performed at noteworthy arenas such as Lincoln Center, Apollo Theatre, Brooklyn Museum, the National Black Theatre in Harlem and most recently on the television shows of Kelly and Ryan, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon.
A Cum Laude graduate of NYU, Iymaani received her undergraduate degree in Viola Performance, following with a Master of Arts degree in Music Education, from the same institution. Upon graduating, Iymaani taught for three years at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and Harlem School of the Arts. Frustrated with the outdated educational system, Iymaani developed a unique curriculum to increase positive self-esteem and cultural awareness for young music students. Her innovative curriculum grew into a small business, IAH Studio --offering private violin, viola and music theory instruction to youth and adults in the South Bronx and Harlem, and curating events that showcase the artistry of musicians throughout history and the diaspora.
As a soloist, band leader, chamber and orchestra musician, Joelle has had the pleasure of performing at various prestigious venues including the Apollo, Carnegie Hall, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Taetro Del Sale in Florence, Italy and The Jefferson Performing Arts Center and Southport Music Hall in New Orleans, LA. Born and raised in NYC, Joelle has been featured in the New York Times with her sibling string trio, JoSunJari, which she founded in 2007 and who had the honor of performing at the White House in 2013. She is a graduate of Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, and New York University. As co-founder, lead violin and vocalist of Aziza and the Cure, a musical marriage that blends influences from Classical, Hip Hop, New Orleans, and Latin Music traditions among others, Joelle greatly enjoys the hard work and flow of composing, recording and performing new music. She and her husband River, the producer, lead guitarist, and wordsmith, are excited to release their ep Bringin' Music Back Vol. 1 on April 5th of 2019!
